Since its founding as a European manufacturer of thermal-chemical wafer processing tools in 1968, ASM International has grown to become a leading global supplier of semiconductor equipment, serving both the Front-end, wafer processing, and Back-end, assembly and packaging, markets. Today, ASM is ranked among the top 15 semiconductor equipment manufacturers globally. Our customers include all of the world's leading semiconductor manufacturers. Over the past few years, ASM's product line has undergone rigorous development, positioning both Front- and Back-end business units to capitalize on current and next-generation technology transitions. As a technology leader, ASM has strategically aligned itself with the industry and customer roadmaps, driven by demand for advanced processes and materials. Today, ASM offers a complete portfolio of 300 mm tools across our product line, with Front-end technologies that provide solutions for device geometries down to 32 nanometers and below, and in both Front-end-of-Line (FEOL) transistor formation, and Back-end-of-Line (BEOL) interconnect technologies ASM’s Back-end business, represented by a 53% interest in ASM Pacific Technology, Ltd., leads the sector in assembly and packaging equipment for both the semiconductor and LED industries. A truly global company, ASM operations are located in Europe, the United States, Japan, Hong Kong,China, Singapore and Malaysia. The company has a strong technological base, state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, a thoroughly competent and qualified work force and a highly trained, strategically distributed support network. The Making of a Global Company 1968 – ASM Europe. Established when ASM International began in 1968, ASM Europe has been responsible for the design and manufacture of state-of-the-art thermal processing equipment. Our dual-reactor family of vertical furnaces, the Advance 400 Series, has placed ASM among the top 3 furnace suppliers in the world, while our revolutionary rapid thermal process (RTP) tool, the Levitor, continues to gain traction in its market. 1975 - ASM Pacific Technology, Ltd.In 1975, ASM International opened its assembly and packaging operation in Hong Kong, with the establishment of ASM Pacific Technology (ASMPT).Today, ASMPT is the world's largest supplier of integrated assembly and packaging solutions, and the only company in its industry with an unbroken record of profitability. ASMPT maintains engineering and manufacturing facilities in Hong Kong, Singapore, China and Malaysia. For more information on ASMPT, please visit www.asmpacific.com. 1976 - ASM America. In 1976, ASM established its U.S. wafer-processing base, ASM America. By 1983, ASM was responsible for developing the world's first single-wafer epitaxial reactor. Today our Epsilon® is the world's leading epitaxial reactor, with the largest installed base in Silicon Germanium epitaxy. 1981 -- ASMI NASDAQ. In 1981, ASM International completed its initial public offering and listed its common shares in the United States on the NASDAQ market. 1982 - ASM Japan. In 1982, Front-end operations expanded with the establishment of ASM Japan, to oversee the design and manufacture of plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) equipment. Today, the ASM Japan portfolio includes our Eagle and Dragon platforms, and our Aurora low-k dielectric films. 1989 - ASMPT Hong Kong Exchanges. ASM Pacific Technology, Ltd. became a public company in 1989, listing 25% of its common shares on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Today 46% of ASMPT shares are freely traded on Hong Kong Exchanges, with 54% held by the parent company, ASM International N.V. 1996 - ASMI Euronext. ASM International listed its common shares on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange, now Euronext, in 1996. 1999 - ASM Microchemistry. In 1999, ASM acquired Finland's Microchemistry, the pioneer of atomic layer deposition. ASM introduced Atomic Layer Chemical Vapor Deposition(ALCVD™) films to the semiconductor industry, enabling advanced solutions for device designs in nanotechnology. While ALD manufacturing and engineering is carried out at ASM America, ASM maintains R&D facilities at the University of Helsinki, the world's largest academic research center for atomic layer deposition. 2002 - ASM Pacific Technology. In 2002 ASMPT became the world's largest Back-end equipment supplier. 2004 - Singapore. In 2004, in line with our strategic goals to streamline Front-endmanufacturing costs while increasing production flexibility, ASM openeda new Front-end manufacturing facility in Yishun, Singapore, producingour first generic furnace subassemblies. The Singapore facility, adjacent to our Back-end operations in Singapore, will graduallyproduce generic subsystems for several ASM wafer-processing tools.
2004 - Acquired Technologies. In 2004 ASM acquired Genitech in Korea. Genitech brought in-house breakthrough plasma-enhanced ALD (PEALD) technologies, and Cu Superfill CVD™ for atomic control of copper deposition, as well as further penetration into the Korean market. 2007 - ALD leadership. ASMI entered high volume production of its system for the production of hafnium-based high-k dielectrics with atomic layer deposition for 45nm and below. 2008 – ASMI embarked on its “Roadmap to Front-end Peer Group Profitability”. Presently being implemented across all Front-end operations, this plan is based on four key initiatives: Driving Revenue Growth; Increasing Operating Margins; Improving Cash Conversion; and, Streamlining and Restructuring Our Global Model. 2009 – ASMI initiated PERFORM!, a program to transform ASM Front-end operations into a strong profit making organization that performs consistently throughout industry cycles. Today, ASM International has over 11.000 employees worldwide and operates with more than 2.5 million square feet of plant capacity. In addition to the locations cited above, global sales and service operations are located in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan, as well as multiplesales/service sites in the United States and Japan. |
