Job's mission: Drive innovation in 3D integration and advanced packaging

We are looking for a talented Senior Process Engineer to join our Corporate Research & Development Team in Leuven, Belgium. In this role, you will contribute to groundbreaking innovations in atomic layer deposition (ALD) and surface modification techniques for 3D integration and advanced packaging applications. You will develop seamless device integration strategies, pushing the boundaries of semiconductor technology.

Your work will advance key areas such as interconnect, memory-on-memory, logic-on-memory, and imager stacking, helping ASM stay at the forefront of semiconductor advancements.

What you will be working on:

  • Develop and implement strategies for seamless device integration to achieve optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Innovate new thin film processes and applications for logic devices, interconnects, 3D integration, and advanced packaging.
  • Design and execute experiments, analyze complex data sets, and drive actionable conclusions.
  • Work hands-on with state-of-the-art semiconductor equipment to optimize processes and hardware for maximum efficiency.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal and customer R&D teams to define requirements and ensure project success.
  • Support successful product transfers to customers by performing demonstrations, sharing knowledge, and traveling to ASM sites as needed.

What we are looking for:

  • A PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science, preferably with a semiconductor-related thesis.
  • At least 3 years of experience in semiconductor processing and/or device integration.
  • Knowledge of 3D integration (W2W, D2W hybrid bonding) or advanced packaging applications (e.g., memory-on-memory, logic-on-memory, imager stacking, low-temperature devices).
  • Hands-on experience with thin film deposition techniques (e.g., ALD, CVD) and characterization methods (e.g., CSAM, WCA, XPS, AFM, XRD, XRF, electrical characterization, and ellipsometry).
  • A pragmatic, hands-on approach with the ability to work independently.
  • Solid understanding of semiconductor physics, process integration, and advanced chemistries.
  • Strong project planning and execution skills, with effective communication across stakeholders.
  • Empathy and adaptability to diverse cultures and working styles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey complex technical constructs.

What sets you apart:

  • A curious and innovative mindset, eager to explore and solve complex challenges.
  • Ability to synthesize complexity into pragmatic solutions that drive results.
  • A collaborative attitude, contributing to ASM’s culture of trust and transparency.

What we offer:

  • The opportunity to join an innovative, international team at the IMEC campus in Leuven, Belgium.
  • Comprehensive employee benefits, including group and hospitalization insurance, meal vouchers, eco-cheques, and a home office setup.
  • Generous annual leave and relocation support for candidates outside Belgium.
  • A culture that values diversity and promotes inclusion, fostering creativity and collaboration.
