With a strong concentration of technology companies and a lower cost of living than many major tech hubs, Richardson provides an ideal environment for both professional and personal growth.

About the Role

As a Senior Field Process Engineer, you will lead process development, technology transfers, and new product introductions on ASM epitaxy systems at a strategic customer site. You will act as the primary technical liaison between the customer’s engineering teams and ASM's global product and R&D organizations, ensuring successful process development, qualification, and manufacturing ramp activities.

This customer-facing role requires strong technical expertise, project leadership, and exceptional communication skills to drive customer success and long-term partnerships.

What you'll be working on

Process Development & Customer Support

  • Lead on-site process development, optimization, and troubleshooting activities on ASM epitaxy systems.
  • Design, execute, and analyze experiments to support new process development, continuous improvement initiatives, tool matching, and issue resolution.
  • Partner closely with customer engineering teams to understand current and future technology requirements.
  • Drive process and hardware improvements that enhance performance, yield, and customer satisfaction.
  • Lead new product evaluations, installations, and qualification activities.
  • Manage technical projects from planning through successful execution and customer acceptance.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, best practices, and process knowledge.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance customer experience, operational efficiency, and engineering support capabilities.

Technology Transfer & Knowledge Management

  • Lead process transfers from ASM R&D organizations to customer qualification and manufacturing sites.
  • Support technology transfers between manufacturing facilities, including greenfield fabs.
  • Document process learnings, hardware improvements, and best known methods (BKMs).
  • Transfer product and process knowledge to local service and engineering teams to ensure sustainable customer success.

Customer Engagement & Escalation Management

  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor and primary process interface for the customer.
  • Proactively manage technical escalations and drive structured problem-solving efforts.
  • Develop action plans and coordinate communication across customers, service teams, product units, and suppliers.
  • Deliver timely, clear, and professional communication through presentations, reports, and customer meetings.

What we're looking for

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Physical Chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of semiconductor process engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education and industry experience.
  • Strong knowledge of epitaxial deposition processes, thin-film characterization, semiconductor devices, and vacuum systems.
  • Experience designing and executing experiments using DOE methodologies and statistical analysis techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex process and equipment issues using structured problem-solving tools such as KT, FMEA, 7-Step, or Ishikawa methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, customer-facing, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

What sets you apart

  • Experience with semiconductor capital equipment and customer-facing engineering roles.
  • Proven success developing and optimizing epitaxial deposition processes.
  • Direct experience with ASM epitaxy equipment.
  • Experience supporting technology transfers, process qualification, and manufacturing ramp activities.

Travel Requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 25% for training, technical collaboration, customer support, and engagement with ASM global teams.
  • Flexibility to support critical customer escalations, qualifications, or project milestones, which may occasionally require extended hours or weekend support.
