Senior Specialist II, Facility, Hazardous Materials Safety

Job's mission

This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining a comprehensive chemical and hazardous materials safety management system for ASM Korea's Dongtan Lab. The role manages the chemical lifecycle, regulatory compliance, risk assessment, incident prevention, inspections, and training, while partnering closely with Facility, EHS, R&D, Engineering, contractors, and external authorities.

What you will be working on

A. Chemical and Hazardous Materials Lifecycle Management 

• Manage processes for chemical purchase requests, receipt, registration, storage, use, transfer, and disposal. 

• Maintain accurate chemical inventories and establish appropriate stock-level controls. 

• Identify and correct over-storage, unregistered chemicals, expired materials, incompatible storage, and improper storage conditions. 

• Maintain up-to-date Safety Data Sheets and effective chemical labeling systems. 

• Inspect storage and handling areas, including capacity, segregation, ventilation, fire protection, and emergency equipment. 

B. Regulatory Compliance 

• Support compliance with applicable Korean chemical, hazardous materials, occupational safety, and K-REACH requirements. 

• Support the legally required hazardous materials safety management structure and designated roles. 

• Maintain permits, notifications, records, and statutory inspection documentation. 

• Coordinate regulatory inspections, internal audits, customer audits, and corrective actions. 

• Align ASM global EHS and Safety standards with local regulatory requirements. 

C. Risk Assessment and Incident Prevention 

• Perform pre-introduction reviews for new chemicals, process changes, and non-routine work. 

• Conduct chemical risk assessments and define effective control measures. 

• Investigate incidents and near misses, perform root cause analysis, and manage CAPA to closure. 

• Develop and support emergency response plans and drills for spills, fires, and exposure events. 

• Drive field observations, safety inspections, and data-based recurrence prevention. 

D. Programs, Procedures, and Training 

• Establish and improve the Chemical Safety Program, SOPs, work instructions, and checklists. 

• Deliver role-based chemical safety training for researchers, engineers, chemical users, and contractors. 

• Manage contractor and vendor requirements for chemical entry and safe work execution. 

• Report inspection findings, key risks, and action status to leadership and stakeholders. 

• Promote a proactive safety culture and clear accountability for safe chemical handling

What we are looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering, or a related field. 

• Professional experience in chemical safety, hazardous materials management, EHS, or a related discipline. 

• Practical knowledge of Korean chemical and hazardous materials regulations. 

• Experience in manufacturing, semiconductor, laboratory, or a comparable high-risk work environment. 

• Experience in risk assessment, field inspection, incident investigation, and corrective and preventive action management. 

• Ability to collaborate across functions and translate requirements into sustainable field execution. 

• English communication skills sufficient to work with global stakeholders. 

What sets you apart

• Chemical safety experience in a semiconductor Fab or R&D laboratory. 

• Credentials meeting the legal eligibility requirements for appointment as a Hazardous Materials Safety Manager. 

• Relevant national certifications in industrial safety, hazardous materials, environment, or fire protection. 

• Experience establishing or improving chemical inventory or compliance programs. 

• Experience in a global EHS or Facility organization.
