ASM in Arizona
ASM established a North American headquarters in Arizona in 1976, making us one of the first semiconductor companies in the state. Today, Arizona is home to our largest research & development facility worldwide.
We have been in Arizona for nearly half a century and are not going anywhere. We are building a new North American headquarters to house our largest R&D center in the world.

Jump into the nano-world of microchips in From sand to stars: A semiconductor adventure. Discover how tiny grains of sand become the big brains behind the technology that powers our world and improves our lives. Experiment, play, and imagine the invisible atomic layers that power today’s chips and tomorrow’s dreams.
ASM has built an immersive experience at the Arizona Science Center that demystifies the intricate chip-making process, revealing the scientific marvels behind the advanced technology we rely on every day. This exhibit—From sand to stars: A semiconductor adventure—is designed to spark curiosity and deepen understanding among kids and the broader community. It shows how semiconductor science is shaping our world and powering the future. The exhibit is open from September 29 to December 24, 2025.
The exhibit will be open during SEMICON West. Find it just across the street from the conference at the Arizona Science Center, 600 E Washington St, Phoenix, AZ, 85004.

Want to know more about our new facility?
What will happen at ASM’s new facility in Scottsdale?
Our Scottsdale facility will be an innovation center for the company, focused on research and development. Our facility is a key R&D center for ASM’s leadingedge ALD and Epi technologies, innovating the technologies our customers need to develop microchips. This facility will include corporate office spaces and serve as our North American headquarters.
Why is ASM building this?
Our operations in Arizona must grow to meet the needs of our customers and the growth of the global semiconductor industry. We’re proud to be part of the rise of the semiconductor sector here in Arizona. Our customers include companies from around the world and also many in the Phoenix area. Our technology is used for semiconductor integrated-circuit chips needed to make the electronics that nearly every consumer and business uses. Learn more
Where is it?
The new facility is south of the 101 freeway off N. Scottsdale Rd.
How will the new development contribute to the local economy?
The investment in the new facility in Scottsdale will substantially expand ASM’s activities and, as such, will help to strengthen Arizona as a hub for top-notch semiconductor innovation. ASM anticipates hiring 500 people in Arizona over six years (from 2023). This will bring about 1,300 jobs to Scottsdale by 2030. The expansion will create new job opportunities in R&D and engineering fields such as mechanical, electrical, and process.
How does ASM prioritize sustainability and water conservation?
We’re pursuing LEED certification for our new Scottsdale facility. Our plans include solar panels, EV charging, and other sustainably conscious elements. ASM is committed to implementing a robust water reclamation system with built-in redundancies to increase resiliency. In line with our commitment to sustainability efforts, we will be recycling up to 80% of the lab water we use. At ASM, sustainability is an integral part of our strategy and one of the key pillars of our approach, as we aspire to improve people’s lives worldwide. Read more on ESG or download our climate transition plan.
In 2023, our facility in Phoenix was recognized with two awards from Veolia, a global water technology company, for our dedication to sustainability. In addition, in 2021 our Phoenix hub was among our company’s first to achieve 100% renewable electricity. We achieved 100% renewable electricity for all global operations in the first half of 2024.
ASM in the community
At ASM, a better world is more than a vision—we're taking steps to make a positive impact, focusing on giving back to the communities where we operate, our industry, and society overall. This is why we engage, collaborate, and innovate beyond our scale; we want to create a more inclusive, better world inside and outside ASM.
The Nature Conservancy
ASM has embarked on a multi-year, $300,000 partnership with The Nature Conservancy, TNC, to help them fund critical conservation projects in Arizona. A key project is the Restoring Flows program, which allows local farms to modernize their irrigation systems to restore the watershed and flows to Arizona’s Verde River. Currently, TNC is working with Hauser and Hauser Farms, located near Sedona, to improve their systems and save nearly 140 million gallons of water per year for the Verde River. This project strengthens the long-term resilience of the Verde River, which is one of the last free-flowing river systems in the state and serves as a critical water supply for the Phoenix Metro area. Read more about the impact TNC is making.
Arizona Sustainability Alliance
ASM's multi-year $240,000 partnership with the Arizona Sustainability Alliance (AZSA) , will support urban tree planting and conservation education. ASM's donation marks the largest corporate sponsorship in AZSA history. It will help fund the organization's annual initiatives, signature events, education programs, and planting more than 250 drought-tolerant trees. ASM employees and their families will volunteer to plant these trees in high-need places in the greater Phoenix area. Learn more about AZSA’s incredible work.
So far, these projects have enhanced tree equity and increased tree canopies by 1-2% within the communities where the tree plantings have been held, removing 1.5 tons of carbon dioxide and more than eight pounds of air pollutants, greenhouse gases, and other particles each year.
Who is ASM?
ASM has a legacy of innovation dating back more than half a century. In 1968, entrepreneur Arthur del Prado established ASM in the Netherlands.
Established in 1976, ASM was one of the first semiconductor companies in Arizona, helping it earn the nickname ‘Silicon Desert’ from the very start. Home to our largest Research & Development site worldwide, Arizona is the center for developing our leading Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) and epitaxy applications, enabling countless next-gen technology breakthroughs in AI, biotech, electric vehicles, and more.
We are committed to environmental stewardship, sound labor practices, and safety leadership. It's why we have some of the most ambitious sustainability targets in the industry, like aiming for Net Zero emissions across all scopes by 2035.
