Job's mission

As a Senior Engineer I, Metrology at ASM, you will play a critical role in enabling next-generation semiconductor technology development. Working at the heart of our R&D materials development labs, you will apply advanced metrology techniques to support cutting-edge ALD and Epitaxy process innovation.

This role offers the opportunity to work hands-on with state-of-the-art characterization tools, collaborate closely with process engineers, and directly impact the development and optimization of materials for advanced node semiconductor manufacturing—all within a collaborative, fast-moving R&D environment.

What you will be working on

  • Apply advanced metrology and materials characterization techniques to support ASM’s materials and process development roadmap
  • Collaborate closely with ALD and Epi process engineers to select appropriate metrology methods and support data interpretation
  • Acquire, analyze, and summarize metrology data for engineering teams and management reviews
  • Troubleshoot metrology equipment issues and partner with tool vendors to resolve hardware and software challenges
  • Develop and optimize metrology recipes and applications to improve efficiency and solve technical challenges
  • Support metrology tool uptime and lab operations in collaboration with vendors and internal teams
  • Train engineers on metrology tools, develop SOPs, and create recovery procedures for tool-down scenarios
  • Monitor equipment performance and uptime data, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain LEAN 6S standards and support a clean, organized, and efficient lab environment
  • Stay current with industry trends through conferences, seminars, and technical workshops

What we are looking for

  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a related engineering discipline
  • Hands-on experience with metrology techniques such as XRR, XRD, XRF, TXRF, FTIR, SPV, four-point probe, Hall effect, and defect inspection tools
  • Solid understanding of semiconductor processing and device fabrication
  • Strong data analysis and reporting skills; proficiency with MS Office and JMP
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams
  • Clear communication skills, both written and verbal

What sets you apart

  • Experience developing metrology recipes and turnkey metrology solutions
  • Background in laboratory operations and metrology equipment maintenance
  • Programming or scripting experience for automation of data acquisition, analysis, or tool control
  • Working knowledge of optical and e-beam defect inspection and review techniques
  • Strong practical understanding of advanced semiconductor manufacturing processes

*This position may require flexible working arrangements, including adjusted schedules or occasional off-hour support, depending on operational and project needs in the R&D environment.
