Job's mission

The Commodity Manager is a key operational role focused on managing supplier relationships and ensuring supply continuity for ASM’s Contract Manufacturing (CM) partners. Based in Penang, Malaysia, this role supports Product transfer, dual source and resourcing, monitors supplier performance, and resolves tactical issues across cost, quality, and delivery. Working closely with internal teams, the CM Commodity Manager helps maintain a reliable and responsive supply base that supports ASM’s manufacturing operations.

What you will be working on

  • Act as the primary relationship owner for CM suppliers, maintaining performance and engagement.
  • Serve as point of escalation and collaborate across internal teams to resolve tactical issues related to cost, quality, delivery, and service.
  • Monitor supplier capacity and analyze demand vs. supply; initiate risk buy proposals when needed.
  • Evaluate and address supplier risks across financial, quality, delivery, cost, capacity, system, and market dimensions.
  • Conduct quarterly supplier performance reviews and drive continuous improvement.
  • Manage supplier change requests and ensure compliance with change control requirements.
  • Support CM supplier qualification with SDE and Quality teams.
  • Lead cost and lead-time reduction projects with business case support.
  • Work with CM partners to consolidate supplier base for efficiency and cost savings.
  • Conduct market analysis on pricing, lead time, and capacity.
  • Monitor currency fluctuations and ensure accurate conversion rates.
  • Perform should-cost and industry benchmarking.
  • Ensure CM performs market and capacity analysis and proposes safety stock or dual sourcing.
  • Conduct annual supplier contract negotiations and establish SLAs, MLAs, and MPAs based on business needs.
  • Report and escalate supply continuity risks associated with product lifecycle and operational requirements.
  • Lead in quarterly business reviews with CM partners.
  • Perform cost analysis to outsource product to CM

What we are looking for

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in commodity management, sourcing, or supplier management.
  • Proven experience managing contract manufacturers in a global environment.
  • Strong analytical skills in cost modeling, market analysis, and risk assessment.
  • Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and resolve operational issues.
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal) 

What sets you apart

  • Experience in the semiconductor or high-tech manufacturing industry.
  • Familiarity with supplier scorecard methodologies and 4M+1E planning.
  • Knowledge of SAP ERP systems and supply chain analytics tools.
  • Experience with dual sourcing and supplier consolidation strategies.
  • Ability to travel internationally as needed.
