Reporting to the Head of Sourcing Malaysia, the EMP Commodity Manager, is the primary owner for the Contract Manufacturing (CM) supplier relationships and responsible for supply continuity of a Product Line and support NPI when needed. Working closely with Manufacturing Engineering/Product teams, Quality Engineers, Program Management, Ops Production and Control, buyers and other Commodity Managers, and in accordance with the commodity strategy, this role will support the formulation and execution for overall supplier management strategy and is responsible for successfully managing the key relationships between Organization and the Contract Manufacturers.
Responsibilities:
- Manages the outsourcing and contract manufacturing partners globally. Optimizes supplier performance including Quality, Delivery, Cost, Innovation, Supply Chain Management, etc.
- Works within the team to establish and develop CM Long Term Plan based on the company’s strategy and direction. Adapts the strategy as business, market, and economic environments change.
- Establishes and maintains CM Capability Matrix and performance.
- Constantly evaluates and identifies CM risks in term of financial, quality, delivery, cost, capacity, system, market, etc and leads efforts to address those risks.
- Maintains good relationship with our Contract Manufacturer. This includes onsite visits, regular conference calls and coming in visits. Understands CM’s organization structure, work shift, business roadmap, infrastructure planning, and so on… Be the primary contact point and relationship owners.
- Be the Point of Escalation. Collaborates with various internal groups to resolve any issues from cost, quality, delivery and design performance
- Work with CM to achieve cost reduction to meet internal given KPI
- Lead and manage Dual Sourcing and resourcing activities
- Lead and drive Quarterly Business review with our CM
- Take strategic lead to drive any process improvement with CM to lower the overall cost including cost avoidance
- Manage CM future growth in accordance to company’s direction
- Lead cost and lead time reduction project with relevant business unit with supporting business case
- Support CM new supplier qualification with SDE and Quality team
- Work with CM to consolidate supplier base for efficiency and cost reduction
- Manage Supplier Change Request to support Cost reduction
- Identifies gaps in direction vs. industry. Provide recommendations to address gaps
- Analyzes market trends,
- Conducts market analysis for price, lead-time, and capacity whenever necessary
- Submit risk buy proposals to ensure is aligned with cost target
- Analyzes market drivers, which affects the commodity (raw material, component availability, global supply and demand, etc.)
- Monitor currency fluctuations to ensure that we are paying the right conversion rate to CM
- Perform should cost and industrial benchmarking
- Strategize and Lead Contract Manufacturer 4M+1E Plan (Materials, Manpower, Machine, Method and Environment )
- Ensure CM is performing market analysis, lead time and capacity analysis for all their suppliers and propose for safety stock or dual sourcing when needed
- Evaluate risk buy proposal from CM to ensure supply continuity
- Ensure CM is aware of global supply and demand perform due diligence and update long term strategy accordingly. Perform monthly/quarterly check on CM’s 4M+1E to ensure CM is meeting our long term forecast plan
- Escalate and Collaborate with CM on all challenges that is impacting long term build
- Initiates and conducts annual supplier contract negotiations
- Conducts spend analysis, leading to negotiation with supply base
- Establishes SLA in accordance to business needs and requirements
- Establishes terms and conditions for contracts
- Establishes MLA and MPA with CM based on business needs
- Quarterly safety stock and MLA review with CM
- Quarterly cost monitoring and negotiation
- Conducts Quarterly CM Performance Reviews (Supplier Scorecard)
- Utilizes standardized agenda
- Identifies Cost Reduction opportunities
- Reviews Delivery performance
- Reviews Quality performance
- Reviews ECO Response Quality performance
- Reviews Contract SLA performance
- Review CM long term business plan and readiness to support future business growth
Requirements:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Business or a technically related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 12 years of experience in Purchasing, Supply Chain, Program Management or a technical position in a Low Volume High Value Manufacturing environment.
- Experience and knowledge in Large Module manufacturing and process.
- Experience and knowledge in Copy Exactly! Culture is a plus
- Competence with MS Office software, MS Excel, MS Word and MS Powerpoint are a must.
- Proven leadership ability and problem-solving skills are a must.
- Ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams in a matrix organization required.
- Strong interpersonal, problem-solving and project management skills required
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to quantify/evaluate manufacturing processes and technologies to ensure “best cost” solutions for purchased components and new product cost parameters.
- Demonstrated negotiation skills.

- Planning and organizational skills with an ability to handle a multitude of projects required.
