Position Summary

The EHS Engineer plays a pivotal role in advancing the company’s EHS objectives by ensuring compliance with applicable local regulations, corporate policies, and industry standards. As a technical subject matter expert, this role is dedicated to fostering a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace through the effective implementation and continuous improvement of EHS management systems.

Additionally, the EHS Engineer serves as a key enabler for site EHS leadership, helping to translate strategic vision and commitments into actionable initiatives and sustained performance. The role collaborates closely with cross-functional teams at the Dongtan site to identify and mitigate risks, promote a proactive safety culture, and support long-term EHS excellence.

 

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain the EHS Management System in accordance with local regulations, corporate policies, SEMI standards, and customer requirements.
  • Develop, execute, and continuously improve EHS programs, procedures, and training to ensure a hazard-free workplace for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections and audits to identify and mitigate potential safety, health, and environmental risks.
  • Manage site EHS permits and ensure timely reporting and compliance with all regulatory and permit application requirements.
  • Lead and support incident reporting and investigations, ensuring quality and compliance with regulatory and corporate standards.
  • Analyze EHS performance metrics to identify trends and implement improvement plans to reduce risk and enhance performance.
  • Oversee environmental programs, including hazardous materials management, waste control, and emergency response planning.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and guidance to site personnel and leadership on EHS-related issues and best practices.
  • Collaborate with regional and global EHS teams to align procedures, share best practices, and support global initiatives.
  • Support and implement effective EHS training programs and evaluate their impact and compliance.
  • Maintain readiness and participate in emergency response activities, including off-hours support when necessary.
  • Proactively advise management on EHS risks, opportunities, and strategic improvements.
  • Influence and engage a wide range of stakeholders, including executives, peers, customers, and site personnel, to promote a strong EHS culture.
  • Lead the implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications to ensure ongoing compliance and alignment with corporate and regulatory expectations.

 

Qualifications

  • BS in Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety Science or Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Business Management, Risk Management, or other technical related degree.
  • 0–3 years of experience in EHS management, assurance, or auditing, preferably in the semiconductor industry or similar environments such as manufacturing or high-tech industries.
  • Industrial safety engineer license (안전관리자) or Industrial health engineer license (보건관리자) or Certified Laboratory Safety Manager (연구실 안전관리사) preferred.
  • Solid understanding of Korean EHS regulations, including: Occupational Safety and Health Act (산업안전보건법), Laboratory Safety and Security Management Act (연구실 안전환경 조성에 관한 법률), Serious Accidents Punishment Act (중대재해 처벌 등에 관한 법률)
  • Familiarity with international EHS standards, such as ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and SEMI requirements.
  • Proficient English communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively with global teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to bring fresh perspectives to complex challenges.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally across all organizational levels.
  • Experience working in a multinational corporate environment is preferred.
  • Competency in using EHS data analysis tools and performance monitoring systems.
