ASM is recruiting for a Field Process Engineer to support either plasma or thermal deposition tools located in Leixlip, Ireland and across other client sites.

As a field process engineer at ASM, you will be supporting our global customer base working on the most advanced technology nodes in the semiconductor industry. When joining our service team based in Ireland, you will be able to kick start your career or to develop as an experienced engineer. ASM will provide extensive training at our global training center, and on the job training under the mentorship of an experienced ASM engineer.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, execute, oversee, and log process qualification for new installs, conversions, and continuous improvement retrofits for PE-CVD/PE-ALD or ALD/CVD/epitaxy reactors across multiple client sites, on time and in budget.
  • Apply structured problem-solving methods to develop and eliminate problem models to assist hardware teams to close tool excursion escalations efficiently and quickly in both install and sustaining.
  • Evaluate, understand and identify current customer needs & new opportunities, while also anticipating future needs and building long-term sustainable relationships and solutions.
  • Develop, record, maintain, and proliferate across the organization recipes, data, and other technical information used by internal and external stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous improvement of the customer experience through team, process and support tool development, for example by driving productivity improvements, cost reductions, or performance improvements for existing tools.
  • Work hands-on in a field service sustaining or install engineering role where necessary, including assembling, disassembling, decommissioning, calibrating, and troubleshooting advanced electro-mechanical semiconductor capital equipment.

Requirements:

  • Valid work permit for Ireland and the EU
  • Masters or above in a materials-focused STEM discipline, particularly materials physics or engineering, chemistry, electronic engineering, nanotechnology, or equivalent;
    • Or bachelors’ STEM degree with 1-3 years’ directly relevant experience;
    • Or a relevant technical qualification with 3-5 years’ experience while meeting all other requirements.
  • Desirable: technical experience and business perspective from the semiconductor, capital equipment or related advanced manufacturing industry. PE-CVD, PE-ALD, ALD, CVD, epitaxy, etch, PVD, surface preparation, photolithography, high temperature processing, materials metrology or characterization, or related relevant experience is a plus.
    • Highly desirable: direct experience with Dragon, Eagle, QCM, Magma, Unicon, Pulsar, Synergis, A400/A412, Sonora, or Intrepid ASM tools, or competing chambers.
  • Proven applied experience in at least one of the following: signals processing (civilian eg seismic, military, or RF), or data processing with a tool equivalent to Python, R, MatLab, Mathematica, Tableau, PowerBI, or JMP.
  • Commitment to safety and quality cultures vital to ASM and our customers.
  • Good mechanical and electrical skills.
  • Willingness to work in Ireland in the long term; also to travel to provide on-site support outside Ireland for 10-50% of the year if necessary, including to the USA, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Israel, and within the EU, for continuous periods of up to 2 months.
  • Ability to work in and organize a team environment, across companies, and with both hardware and process teams, within tight deadlines and while satisfying multiple priorities.
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with customers and internal organizations: this is a customer-facing role.
  • Willingness to work in both cleanroom and office environments regularly and for extended periods of time, to gather data and troubleshoot tool issues, manage qualifications and escalations, and to engage stakeholders. This is a mixed-space role which requires a person able to move between environments and sites, and to work both on site and remotely as necessary.
  • Technically fluent in English.
    • Any one of: Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, Hebrew, German, Dutch, French, Spanish, or Italian as a second or primary language would be highly regarded for the traveling and collaborative parts of the role.
