Job's mission

As a Senior Engineer I, System Engineering at ASM, you will play a critical role in translating complex ideas into reliable, high‑performance semiconductor equipment.
Working at the intersection of hardware, software, physics, and process technology, you will contribute to the design, integration, and validation of advanced systems that power next‑generation semiconductor manufacturing.

This role offers the opportunity to work hands‑on with cutting‑edge technology, collaborate with global cross‑functional teams, and directly influence the performance, quality, and success of ASM’s products in customer fabs worldwide.

What you will be working on

  • Contribute to system engineering activities across electrical, mechanical, physics, algorithms, and software domains, with a strong understanding of system‑level interactions and trade‑offs.
  • Support the development and maintenance of system engineering specifications, ensuring alignment between functional requirements, design intent, and implementation.
  • Participate in system integration activities during assembly, bring‑up, and final testing phases of new product designs, identifying and resolving integration issues.
  • Assess the technical feasibility of new product concepts and design proposals, analyze risks, and support architecture decisions in collaboration with senior engineers and architects.
  • Troubleshoot complex system‑level issues, propose and implement corrective actions while ensuring compliance with ASM’s product design and safety standards.
  • Plan and manage engineering projects, including schedule definition, progress tracking, and reporting, while coordinating effectively across multiple departments.
  • Create and execute engineering project plans, including task breakdowns, Gantt charts, and resource or cost estimates using tools such as MS Project.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware, software, process, and test teams to support module and system‑level development, verification, and performance optimization.
  • Develop, review, and approve test plans, procedures, and acceptance criteria, ensuring thorough validation of new and modified system designs.
  • Conduct and coordinate system‑level testing, analyze results, and provide structured feedback to product engineering, physics, algorithm, and software teams to drive continuous improvement.
  • Support the definition and validation of external equipment interfaces, analyze system architecture concepts, and ensure documentation remains accurate and up‑to‑date using appropriate analysis tools.

What we are looking for

  • Master’s or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • At least 6 years of experience as a process or system engineer within a semiconductor equipment manufacturing environment.
  • Solid hands‑on experience with equipment hardware design or development, including subsystems or units such as reactors, plasma sources, or equivalent complex modules.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD design and modeling tools such as Pro‑E / Creo, and experience using JMP or similar data analysis tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to understand issues at both component and system levels.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, collaborative, and global environment.
  • Clear and professional communication skills in both English and Korean, with the ability to explain complex technical topics to diverse audiences.

What sets you apart

  • Experience leading system integration or bring‑up activities for complex semiconductor equipment.
  • Strong understanding of cross‑disciplinary trade‑offs between hardware, software, and process performance.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in parallel development environments.
  • Experience working directly with global engineering teams or customer‑facing projects.
  • Passion for continuous improvement, structured problem solving, and mentoring or supporting junior engineers.
