As a (Senior) Patent Counsel in one of our R&D sites (Phoenix, Leuven or Helsinki), you will grow and safeguard our critical intellectual property assets, enabling our cutting-edge technology to thrive in the marketplace. You will collaborate with inventors, R&D teams, and your colleagues globally to grow and manage a diverse patent portfolio, in a high-tech, multicultural environment.  

 

What You Will Be Working On

  • Drafting and prosecuting patents within ASM’s diverse technology portfolio.
  • Building strong relationships with inventors and staying informed about R&D advancements.
  • Managing outside counsel and implementing global IP prosecution strategies.
  • Depending on seniority and interests, you will also be
    • Training the global team of Patent Counsels on US patent law
    • Developing our drafting and prosecution processes and strategies together with the Patent Counsel Team Lead
    • Advising on contracts or other legal matters

 

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in chemistry, materials science, physics, mechanical engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Qualified as a US patent attorney or at least partially qualified European Patent Attorney
  • Strong experience in patent drafting, IP portfolio management
  • Experience in supervising external counsel is an advantage
  • Knowledge of IP-related contracts and other IP types such as trademarks or trade secrets.
