Senior Process Engineer

Job details

Step into a career with ASM, where cutting edge technology meets collaborative culture.

For over 55 years ASM has been ahead of what’s next, at the forefront of innovation and what’s technologically possible. With more than 4,500 ASMers representing 70 nationalities, our people and our advanced semiconductor devices are playing a crucial role in trends such as 5G, cloud computing, AI, and autonomous driving.  But we’re more than just a tech company. We value diversity, inclusion and sustainability as we strive to make a positive impact on the world.  Our development programs help support your growth, shaping your future and pushing the boundaries of innovation to unleash potential.

At ASM, the journey from scientific breakthrough to semiconductor technology begins with people like you. As a Senior Process Engineer in our Corporate Research & Development team, you’ll take on the challenge of developing next-generation atomic layer deposition (ALD) processes that push the boundaries of what’s possible in device fabrication. You’ll bring bold ideas to life—translating new concepts into integrated process flows, and turning lab-scale feasibility into real-world applications that create value for our internal and external customers.

Based at our Leuven site, located within the world-class IMEC campus, you’ll work at the forefront of material science, device physics, and process integration. You’ll collaborate with passionate and highly skilled experts who are eager to learn from you as much as they are to share their knowledge with you. In this role, your ideas and drive will help define the technologies that shape the future of semiconductors.

What you will be working on

  • Drive innovation by developing novel ALD process concepts for advanced semiconductor applications, including logic, memory, analog, and power devices

  • Design and lead end-to-end experimental programs: plan experiments, conduct measurements, analyze complex datasets, and deliver meaningful conclusions

  • Apply your knowledge of thin-film deposition and metrology to interpret process behavior and material performance with accuracy and insight

  • Work hands-on with cutting-edge semiconductor equipment, optimizing processes and collaborating with hardware teams to maximize efficiency and repeatability

  • Collaborate closely with internal R&D teams and customer stakeholders to understand project needs, define requirements, and align technical objectives

  • Present your findings and project outcomes to both technical and non-technical audiences—internally and externally

  • Support product and process transfers to customers by performing live demonstrations, transferring knowledge, and traveling when needed to other ASM sites

What we are looking for

  • A PhD in physics, chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science, preferably with a focus on semiconductor technology or a closely related field

  • A strong foundation in thin-film deposition and characterization, with the ability to translate experimental data into clear and actionable insights

  • Solid understanding of semiconductor device physics, process integration, and fabrication flow

  • Experience with a wide range of characterization techniques, such as ellipsometry, XPS, AFM, XRD, TEM, or electrical measurements

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders

  • A proactive and self-motivated mindset with the ability to plan, execute, and manage complex research projects from start to finish

What sets you apart

  • Prior hands-on experience with atomic layer deposition (ALD), particularly in a semiconductor or materials R&D environment

  • A strong ability to grasp and synthesize complex physical and chemical phenomena, with a pragmatic approach to problem-solving

  • Experience working in collaborative, high-tech research settings—such as joint academia-industry initiatives or consortia like IMEC

  • A passion for innovation and a growth mindset, with the drive to own your development and seize new opportunities as they arise

Apply today to be part of what’s next.

We make the tech that enables the chips in devices which improve lives around the world. We do this with an eye to the future, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible through cutting-edge innovation, and driving the next wave of technological breakthroughs that shape how we live, work, and connect.
