Job's mission
Join ASM’s Corporate Research & Development team at our Leuven site, where innovation begins at the atomic level. As a Senior Process Engineer, you’ll lead the development of next-generation atomic layer deposition (ALD) processes that help define tomorrow’s logic devices. From idea generation to integrated process flows, your expertise will help shape real-world breakthroughs in partnership with an international, hands-on team that shares your curiosity and drive.
What you will be working on
-
Innovate and develop novel thin film processes and applications in logic device technology.
-
Design, execute, and analyze complex experimental programs, drawing conclusions from large datasets.
-
Work directly with advanced semiconductor process tools and optimize process–hardware integration.
-
Characterize thin films using methods such as XPS, AFM, XRD, XRF, ellipsometry, and electrical testing.
-
Partner with global ASM R&D teams and customer stakeholders to define requirements and share results.
-
Support customer demonstrations, knowledge transfers, and technology rollouts across ASM locations.
-
Collaborate across disciplines and actively contribute in fab-based research and experimentation.
-
Travel occasionally to support international projects and customer collaborations.
What we are looking for
-
PhD in physics, chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science — preferably with semiconductor-related research.
-
Alternatively, MSc with relevant industry experience in semiconductor or materials innovation.
-
Experience in thin film deposition (e.g. ALD, CVD, PEALD, PECVD) and hands-on use of film characterization tools.
-
Understanding of semiconductor device physics, deposition equipment, process chemistries and Logic & Memory devices
-
Excellent communication skills with the ability to deliver results in cross-functional projects.
- A collaborator who enjoys spending time working hands on in the fab
What sets you apart
-
Knowledge of plasma physics and its application to advanced process engineering.
-
Experience applying ALD in the context of logic or memory device manufacturing.
-
A strong sense of ownership, curiosity, and practical problem-solving.
-
A collaborative mindset — you enjoy spending time in the lab and thrive in a team environment.
