As a member of the Global Sales and Services business unit, our HVM Senior Safety Engineer is the on-site Safety expert in supporting our Field Service team at our key customer location in Phoenix. you will report to the site Service Director and become part of an exceptional team of scientists, engineers, and many others working at the leading-edge of technology. The Senior Safety Engineer is a key customer interface for Safety and must demonstrate responsibility and proper communication when interacting with the customer while ensuring a strong safety mindset across the Service Organization.

- Provide support to the US Region EHS Manager in the development and maintenance of ASM’s EHS programs to support the organization.
- Must possess an understanding of local/regional regulations and company policies.
- Apply exceptional problem solving and critical thinking skills, bringing a new perspective to existing problems and solutions.
- Ability to impact influence a range of stakeholders, including customers, executives, peers, and site personnel.
- Provide guidance and assist with compliance to all applicable ASM EHS Policies to provide for a hazard-free workplace for ASM’s employees and guests.
- Provide subject matter support to the line organization for workplace health and safety issues/concerns.
- Measure the site’s/region’s performance against company requirements in environmental, health, safety areas.
- Analyze EHS metrics leading to the discovery of trends, and drive improvement plans to closure to minimize risk and improve performance.
- Develop best practices, procedures, training and management controls to ensure work is planned and conducted in a safe manner in accordance with national and local regulatory requirements, Semiconductor Equipment Manufacturing Industry (SEMI) standards, ASM global EHS procedures, and customer requirements and EMS.
- Contribute to the maintenance and continuous improvement of the global safety training program.
- Maintain safety incident and health case reporting in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
- Sustain ASM’s continuous improvement in EHS performance through facility, service operations and program auditing in the customer’s facility.
- Implement global and local training program and ensure its effectiveness.
- Responsible for responding to emergencies during off hours as needed.
- Contribute to and/or lead site safety incident investigation.
- Lead incident prevention efforts, e.g., Safety Management by Walking Around audits (SMBWAs) and Safety Incident Reporting (SIRs), while driving cultural safety maturity among the service teams through direct interaction with site management and FSEs on a daily/weekly/monthly basis in customer facilities.
- Participate in customer engagements including but not limited to site safety walks, process and procedure development and review, and chemical safety/health assessments.
- Develop and maintain direct relations with customer representatives as required.

- Knowledge in the semiconductor equipment industry including fab infrastructure and facilities, including ALD/CVD/EPI wafer processing equipment, emissions test methods, installation/qualification of equipment, and & ergonomics standards.

- Experience with Industrial Hygiene methods and standards applicable to the semiconductor industry preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

- Ability to work in a cleanroom environment around semiconductor equipment, including in/around process modules, hazardous gas/chemical systems, and supporting facilities infrastructure. Will require ability to audit and inspect in some physically demanding situations within the cleanroom and its supporting infrastructure.

- Ability travel between ASM facilities and customer facility.

Education/Experience/Skills Requirements
- BS in Health & Safety Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or related degree.
- 4+ years in Environmental Health & Safety manufacturing and/or equipment design environment
- Familiar with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, local safety regulations or standards for a manufacturing and Research & Development (R&D) environment
- Occupational health and safety experience in high-tech arena/semiconductor fabs preferred.
Must understand the Intellectual Property boundaries between ASM and the Customer and be able to maintain IP, as appropriate, during all external and internal interactions.
